Being in contact with a dog reduces stress and anxiety. Several studies have highlighted the natural anxiolytic effect of dogs on humans. It was also measured that having positive interactions with a dog such as hugs and cuddling decreased blood pressure and increased b-endorphin, oxytocin, prolactin, bphenylethylamine and dopamine, while reducing the level of cortisol (the hormone associated with stress).
